Blue Smoothie Bowl

~ I’m blue da ba dee da ba die da ba dee da ba die ~ The blue in this smoothie is so vibrant! I’ve always wondered how people made these “mermaid” smoothies with all sorts of colors, and it turns out the answer is spirulina. Spirulina is a blue-green algae (I got mine in powdered form) rich in protein, vitamins, and antioxidants and classified as a superfood – so perfect for a smoothie! Have you ever tried making a blue smoothie?

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen mango chunks
  • 1 cup frozen banana slices
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp blue spirulina powder (see notes)
  • toppings of choice, such as granola, fresh fruit, coconut, mint leaves, and honey

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a high powered blender. Pulse the blender until fully mixed. You may need to add more almond milk to reach your desired consistency; I try to keep mine pretty thick so it doesn't turn to soup too quickly in the bowl!
  • Pour the smoothie into a bowl and top with your favorite toppings! Raspberries, blueberries, granola, and coconut are some of my favorites.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

I’ve never found blue spirulina in a grocery store, so I had to order mine here.
