Can anyone resist this gooey, cinnamon, pull-apart goodness? Monkey bread is so easy to make, and is a perfect treat for hosting a party! All you need is a few tubes of store-bought cinnamon rolls, and you’re pretty much ready to go. One question though, can anyone tell me why it’s called monkey bread??
Monkey Bread
Equipment
- Solid bottom bundt pan
Ingredients
- 3 cans Pillsbury Grands cinnamon rolls
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tsp cinnamon
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/8 cup light brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a Bundt pan with cooking spray and then lightly flour the inside, rolling the pan around to make sure it's all coated, then dump out the excess flour. Note: make sure you use a solid Bundt pan, and not a springform or a pan with a removeable bottom, like many angel food cake pans. The melted butter will leak out the bottom, and not only will it make a huge mess in your oven, but it can make your monkey bread not hold together very well once it's done.
- Pop the cinnamon roll dough out of the tubes, and cut each one into four pieces. Save the icing cups for later.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the cinnamon and granulated sugar, and then add 1/3 of the cinnamon roll pieces at a time to the bowl and toss to fully coat them. Once coated in cinnamon and sugar, add the pieces to the Bundt pan.
- Once all the pieces are in the pan, melt the butter and add the brown sugar and the vanilla, and whisk until everything is dissolved and mixed. Pour the butter/sugar mix over the dough pieces in the pan, trying to get it as evenly distributed as possible.
- Bake for 25-35 minutes, or until the center is no longer very gooey, and reads 190°F on a thermometer. Remove the pan and let it cool for 10-15 minutes. This is very important, you need to give it time to set before you turn it out, or else it will all fall apart! Once ready, carefully turn out the monkey bread onto your serving plate of choice.
- You can spoon the icing over the top of the monkey bread, but I recommend piping it instead, it will be easier to get those super-attractive drips down the side, and it's more controllable.
- Enjoy!
